2. HISTORY AND FOUNDATION Created in 2015, AGIR-ASBL (Global Action for Inclusion and Resilience) is a national organization under Congolese law born from a collective initiative of humanitarian, community and development actors engaged in responding to the humanitarian and social consequences of the Kamuena Nsapu crisis (2016–2017) in the Grand Kasai area. Faced with the serious violations of human rights, the massive displacement of populations, the weakening of social cohesion and the collapse of community protection mechanisms observed during this crisis, the founding members of AGIR identified the need to set up an organization capable of sustainably supporting vulnerable communities through inclusive, participatory and resilient approaches. Since its creation, AGIR has worked in the areas of community protection, social cohesion, community health, education, food security, local governance and the empowerment of vulnerable populations, with particular attention paid to women, children, young people and people affected by humanitarian crises. Over the years, AGIR has gradually established itself as a recognized actor in Congolese civil society thanks to its community roots, its capacity for local mobilization and its expertise in the prevention and response to Gender-Based Violence (GBV), Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (EAS), Sexual Harassment (HS), as well as protection monitoring. The organization operates today in several provinces of the Democratic Republic of Congo, notably in the provinces of Kasaï, Kasaï Central, Kwilu, Kwango, Mai-Ndombe, Maniema, North Kivu, South Kivu, Ituri and Tanganyika, with a liaison office in Kinshasa. Thanks to structured governance, internal policies consistent with humanitarian standards and a multisectoral approach centered on communities, AGIR develops partnerships with public institutions, United Nations agencies, national and international NGOs as well as local community structures. Through its interventions, AGIR continues its commitment to: the promotion of human rights; social inclusion; protection of vulnerable people; prevention of violence; strengthening community resilience; promoting peace and sustainable development. Today, AGIR continues to strengthen its presence and expertise in order to effectively contribute to the construction of inclusive, resilient communities capable of confronting humanitarian, social and economic challenges in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
